Last week, it was revealed that Spike Lee was in talks to direct the English language remake of South Korean revenge thriller Oldboy. Well, consider it confirmed!
Mandate Pictures has issued a press release stating that Lee will indeed helm the film, and that screenwriter Mark Protosevich has adapted the screenplay from Park Chan-wook‘s original picture (itself based upon a Japanese manga of the same name).
There is no shoot or release date as yet, nor have any casting announcements been made.
I adore Oldboy, and I adore Park’s entire Vengeance Trilogy. I highly doubt Hollywood can create any remake even nearing its caliber. But Lee is an intriguing choice, and I’m certainly keen to see what he does with the material.
