Jay Roach to helm Obama/McCain election movie

Mr. Meet the Fockers, who also invited you to a Dinner For Schmucks, is now taking on the world of politics, The Wrap report.

Jay Roach will direct Game Change, adapted by Danny Strong (who has appeared in Buffy and recently Mad Men) from John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s 2010 book of the same name.

Game Change is the story behind the run up to the Barack Obama / John McCain election campaign. Heilemann and Halperin’s book caused something of a stir with its some three hundred interviews that revealed unknown information about both of the candidates.

This will be Danny Strong and Jay Roach’s second time working together on an election campaign project for killer network HBO. Their first, Recount, a 2008 film about the 2000 U.S. election, won three Emmys including Outstanding Made-For-Television Movie. So, the bar is already set high for Game Change.

But what’s weirdest is that this project seems to have scooped the news from late last year that Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis were set to star alongside one another in another Jay Roach election satire.

Is the Roach in a race against himself? Well, be it Obama-McCain or Ferrell-Galifianakis, it seems the Roach is here to stay and, one way or another, he’s running for office!

Discuss: Which political project would you like to see Roach work on first?
