Hunger Games cast adds newbies

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed who our Hunger Games District 11 tributes will be, with Hollywood newcomers Dayo Okeniyi cast as Thresh, and Amandla Stenberg scoring the role of Rue.

Okeniyi and Stenberg join Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in the hot new film being touted as the next Twilight franchise.

Thresh is a strong and heavily built tribute who poses a great threat in the games due to his size and strength, but shows mercy to our heroine Katniss and to his fellow district tribute Rue.

Rue is an essential role in the film; she is only 12 years old when she participates in the games and her and Katniss form an unlikely bond and alliance.

As predicted, director Gary Ross and author Suzanne Collins have come through with a more accurate casting of the District 11 tributes; something which is sure to please Hunger Games enthusiasts after the slight upset over the casting of Caucasian Jennifer Lawrence for a presumed ethnic role.

Expect more casting news to pour in soon, and keep up with the tribute casting over at the official Facebook page where they’ve provided this nifty chart.

Discuss: Happy with the casting so far?
