We first discussed the possibility of an Arrested Development movie back in February of 2008. You would think that after almost four years, our anticipation and expectations of it ever eventuating would have subsided. Not so!
The cast of the beloved TV show and creator Mitch Hurwitz reunited over the weekend at the New Yorker festival. According to TV Line, Hurwitz told attendees that the film was indeed happening (yeah, yeah, we’ve heard this before), before dropping something of a bombshell…
They’re planning a new mini-season of the show to air on television as a primer for the movie.
Each episode of the nine or ten part season would focus on a single member of the Bluth family (which means the newly-busy schedules of stars Jason Bateman, Michael Cera and Will Arnett et al could be better accomodated).
Bateman and Arnett later took to Twitter to confirm the news.
Although our inner sceptic wonders which TV network would air a short-run season of a show that was axed almost a decade earlier for low ratings, it’s hard not to get excited by this news.
UPDATE: Deadline reports 20th Century Fox has had talks with Netflix (who are looking for original programming) as well as cable channel Showtime in regards to screening the fourth season of the program.
We wait with baited breath.
