Paul Giamatti in talks for Amazing Spider-Man 2

In an attempt to bring some kind of excitement to the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man sequel, Deadline reports that Paul Giamatti is in talks to take on a villainous role.

Giamatti, who makes anything he appears in substantially better, is discussing the role of Rhino, a super villain amusingly described as one of the ‘dimmest’ bad guys in Spider-Man history.

Rhino is a Soviet thug who undergoes an experimental procedure leaving him covered in body armour and possessing super strength.

Also in talks to appear is Felicity Jones, an English actress who broke out in 2011’s Sundance hit Like Crazy.

It’s unknown at this stage what character Jones is pinned for, but considering the film is already set to feature the characters of Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone) and Mary Jane (Shailene Woodley) it would be surprising if she plays another love interest. Unless some form of love quadrangle is planned for this sequel?

Marc Webb returns to direct Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. Jamie Foxx is also set to star as the baddie Electro.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits cinemas May 2014.
