The trailer for Michel Gondry’s Mood Indigo delights and confuses (unless you happen to speak fluent French).
My high-school French is a little rusty, but luckily we have the film’s official synopsis. Based on the novel L’Ecume des jours by Boris Vian, Mood Indigo follows the unusual love story between Nicholas (Romain Duris) and Chloe (Audrey Tautou), who fall in love and marry before Chloe develops an unusual illness caused by a flower growing in her lungs.
Even if you don’t understand the minimal dialogue in the trailer, there’s plenty of Gondry’s signature visual flair on show to enjoy, arousing much excitement for this whimsical tale.
It looks to be a return to Gondry’s earlier films Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep, rather than his last Hollywood effort The Green Hornet.
Perhaps what’s most exciting about this film is the top shelf cast assembled, which, apart from Duris (Heartbreaker) and Tautou (Amelie), includes Gad Elmaleh (Priceless, The Valet) and Omar Sy (The Intouchables).
There is currently no Australian release date for Mood Indigo.
