The Avengers might get their own TV show (kinda)

Marvel and ABC are looking into expanding The Avengers to a television series, according to Deadline.

After the blockbuster broke records and took in over a billion dollars worldwide, it’s not surprising that Marvel is now looking into how to make more money off the much-loved franchise. Apparently the drama series will take place in the Avengers universe but will not feature any of the characters seen in the Joss Whedon written and directed film.

It’s still early stages for the show, and while a writer is being sought for the project the idea for a high-concept cop show is being thrown out there. One would have to question the success of a spin-off where none of the popular characters would be present but there has been some interest shown by fans in a S.H.I.E.L.D based series.

The film has already inspired the animated show The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the upcoming Avengers Assemble.
