Warner Brothers’ live-action Pinocchio finds new writer in Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, X-Man: First Class), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film looks to be directed by Tim Burton (Frankenweenie, Dark Shadows), with Robert Downey Jr. set to star as Gepetto, marking the first time these two Hollywood heavyweights have worked together. While neither has officially signed on as yet, they have both shown interest over the past few months.
Once Goldman officially signs on as screenwriter, she is said to incorporate Downey’s notes into the screenplay and thus lock him into the film. The original screenplay was written by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller.
Best remembered by the 1940 animated Disney film, Pinocchio first appeared in The Adventures of Pinocchio written by Carlo Collodi in 1883. In this reimagining the woodcarver Gepetto sets off on an adventure to find Pinocchio, the puppet he created who goes missing and longs to become a real boy.
Should be better than Roberto Benigni’s Pinocchio at least.
